Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation performed primarily on the face. Also known as blading, the actual treatment involves the use of a sterile surgical blade to exfoliate the skin. This method removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth and supple. Along with sloughing away dead skin cells, dermaplaning can help reduce the visibility of acne scarring and slight wrinkling, as well as do away with extraneous vellus (translucent) hairs on the face. Dermaplaning is only performed on the face and excludes any blading of the nose, eye lids, neck, or chest. It is recommended that the procedure be done every 3 to 4 weeks. Best results are seen with a series of 6 treatments. This is a 30 minute procedure with no downtime.
